Club Rules:
- Valid Membership Cards must be visibly worn by all members while on Club Property. If not visible the member may be asked to leave club property for the day.
- Anyone handling firearms or archery equipment while on this property MUST be a current member of this club or have a “special event” permit from the club executive.
- When entering firing line enclosures from the parking area, use only the sliding doors, DO NOT enter from the down range side.
- All members are responsible to ensure that no person is down range before bringing firearms to the rifle/handgun firing line.
- Only shoot from designated positions for each target distance.
- All members of this club will know and abide by the rules of The Oldman River Gun Club (received with your membership card).
Rifle/Handgun Range Rules: (Archery included)
- Valid Membership Cards must be visibly worn by all members utilizing the club while on Club Property. If not visible, the member may be asked to leave club property for the day.
- Upon arrival and before any firearm is to be removed from a vehicle, the firearm(s) must be deemed safe and unloaded.
- The provided log book must be filled out with the requested information outlined in the book before any shooting takes place by any person on club property. Your membership identity number may be substituted for your name in the log book.
- Before proceeding downrange, you must establish if there are others using the range.
- If there are other users on the range, communicate your intentions and request a cease fire.
- A cease fire consists of all of the following conditions:
- On the cease fire command all members will stop shooting immediately.
- Shooters must then remove all ammunition from their firearms, leaving the action open.
- All firearms (empty, with their actions open) are to be returned to the supplied gun racks or their transport containers, behind the firing line.
- All persons must then step behind the active firing line.
- When anyone is in front of the firing line, no person may handle any firearm.
- When the range officer deems it safe, he/she may then allow down range activity including target changes or removals.
- Ending a cease fire happens only when the range officer is convinced the following conditions are met:
- The down range area is free of all persons and activity.
- Only now may the range officer allow the shooters to return to the bench, with firearms pointed down range, load firearms and commence shooting on his/her command.
- The Range Officer(s) have authority to enforce all range rules. Anyone disobeying his/her instructions may be asked to leave.
- If rifle and shot gun ranges are both being used a range officer is required for each range.
- The first member to arrive on each range shall be acting range officer until he/she leaves the range; Except, if said member leaves the range, another member must take over as range officer. If a qualified Range Officer enters the range, he/she may take responsibility as the acting range officer, at their discretion.
- ALWAYS have control of, and point your gun, in a safe direction.
- All firearms on the range must be in safe operating condition.
- Know the guns operation prior to using it on the range.
- Unattended firearms shall be unloaded with the action left open and placed in the gun racks or gun cases; except during a cease fire when no gun may be handled!
- All spent cartridge cases must be collected and disposed of in containers provided or removed from range.
- Members firing semi-automatic firearms must be aware of other members on adjacent firing positions, so as not to strike them with extracted brass.
- NO Steel Core, Armor Piercing, or Tracer Rounds will be fired on the Oldman River Gun Club property.
- Eye and ear protection must be worn at all times when on the firing line. This safety gear SHOULD be worn any time shooting is in process. If archery activity is the only activity on the hand gun/rifle range, the use of hearing and eye protection is optional.
- When enter firing line enclosures from the parking area, use only the sliding doors, DO NOT enter from the down range side.
- If the conduct of any member is unsafe, said member may be suspended immediately. All members shall inspect down range and the entire firing line before placing any firearms on the rifle/handgun firing line.
- Only shoot from designated positions for each target distance.
- Before going down range, a cease fire must be called.
- A cease fire must be called at least every 20 minutes, so members may check, remove, or add targets.
- Only shoot at target boards, not at structural parts of the target frames.
- No handling of firearms is permitted behind the firing line when people are down range.
- Dry-firing is only allowed on the firing line at a time that it is deemed safe to fire live ammunition down range.
- No firearm will be loaded until on the firing line and only on the Range Officer’s command.
- All targets must be removed or cleaned up before you leave.
- Rifle/handgun targets may be paper or balloons only. Others, only as approved by the club executive. Approved targets are to be placed on the supplied target frames only.
- Archery will be a priority on the rifle/handgun range only at designated times and days as officially posted by the club executives. At all other times, archery is not to take priority over, nor interfere with, rifle/handgun activities.
- Bows and cross bows will abide by all gun rules when guns are being used on the range at the same time.
- Rifles, handguns, and shotguns will not be allowed on the rifle/handgun range when ‘archery only’ times have been agreed upon and posted by the club executive.
- Only archery targets that do not leave bits of garbage on the range may be used.
- Preferred targets include 3D, cube and box (filled) types. Rifle/handgun target frames are not for archery use.
- Shotguns will be allowed on the rifle/handgun range only to fire at member shooter supplied wooden hangers supporting paper or cardboard targets. Contact club executives for details if not posted at the range. At these targets, and only at these targets, may shotgun slugs and shot be fired on the rifle/handgun range.
- The 25 yd range is to be used for hand guns, rimfire rifles, and archery only.
- Any member shown to disregard club rules may have his/her membership revoked.
- Please put your garbage in the barrels or the dumpster. Help keep your range site clean.
- This range is NOT approved, nor shall it be used for IPSC style shooting.
- Accordingly, no shooting will be allowed down range. This club will allow for stationary single post position on the designated firing line only.
- Familiarize yourself with the emergency contact numbers, first aid kit, range layout and rules before using the range.

This Club has an unblemished reputation that is largely due to the common sense and consistent safety practices of its membership. It is crucial that we maintain this record indefinitely. Remember, when you are engaging in any shooting activity you are an ambassador for all that share the common interest for the sport. Be accountable for each and every shot you take, don't be afraid to monitor and advise other members who may need direction and advise on safer technique and practice. All of the above rules must be abided by, anyone reported or observed abusing the rules will have their membership revoked immediately.
